I can help with long term problems as well as more focused solution based work. I work with Anxiety, Depression, Anger Management, Early Trauma, Work Based Stress, Men's Issues, Support in Later Life and Retirement Preparation. Many people find that a confidential space to talk through difficult issues helps them make sense of the past and disentangle it from the present. I can also work with you to help change problematic behaviours, develop self-awareness & personal understanding.
About me and my practice
I am working in 'retirement' having trained in my spare time while working for many years in Community Education with young people.
I enjoy travel, photography, walking, history and I grow fruit on my allotment all of which help me to feel in touch with the important things in life. I also help with a local charity.
After I was made redundant I set up my own practice working at Rutland House Counselling & Psychotherapy in Leicester. During Covid I moved my work online which proved very successful and I now continue to work both online and face to face.
I am Psychodynamically trained but since working in private practice I now focus on relational work while maintaining the boundaries I was trained in. I use various approaches, either working with here and now issues or deeper issues with their roots in the past. I can discuss these options with you so that our work will be of the most value to you.
Experience
I have wide life experience having had a difficult childhood and a turbulent adolescence. I have had periods of single parenthood unemployment and work place stress. These experiences have helped me understand myself and to better understand others.
Following periods of unemployment I trained in Community Education at Manchester Polytechnic and worked with young people for many years in a both inner city and rural contexts, supporting them through adolescence.
I graduated from the Open University while working and have a Diploma in Management and I trained as a Connexions Personal Advisor.
I trained in Contemporary Psychodynamic Counselling at Leicester University while working full time, qualifying in 2007. I continued to work as a volunteer counsellor for many years alongside my main employment.
I have been in private practice since 2015 working face to face and online.
